Today, Boone and Lance McGregor hints to a little bit of Celtic lore intersecting and filtered through an American idiom– the battle song and the war chant–both of which find their way to the sporting contests of the modern world.

For Lance, I chose a little snatch of a sea-shanty that I’ve always liked. “Wild Goose” is also a nickname for the Irishmen who in centuries past went abroad to fight in Europe’s wars.

Boone shouts out a cheer from the University of Wyoming, because out here college football and basket ball is a real big deal!

FYI, the  Poudre River runs from Wyoming and down through Colorado. On the North side of the border, they say it “Powder” while in Colorado they use the French pronunciation “Poo-der”. Guess how Boone says it!
